ANNOUNCING - BASKETBALL TRYOUTS FOR SPRING 2017!!

The Loudoun Freedom girls' basketball organization has completed tryouts for girls teams for the spring 2017 season in February. You can email loudounfreedombball@gmail.com about potential opportunities with our teams.

  • The creation of a team in a particular age group is dependent on having quality turnout of players, gym space availability, and having strong coaches who represent the values and skill sets promoted by the organization.
  • We will form multiple teams in age groups if turnout at tryouts allows. Second teams are also dependent on quality turnout, gym space and coaches.
  • Coaches will inform all prospective players of their status shortly after the second tryout. Acceptance of offers are due within 24 hours of notification.
  • The creation of U14, U15, U16, or older teams will depend on turnout and the right mix of talent.

GIRLS ELIGIBILITY FOR 2016-17:

The AAU is a grade-based organization. In general, a girl plays in the age group that aligns with her grade for the 2015-16 school year. See the following Grade Division Information.
Age/Grade Competition in girls basketball shall be determined by the following guidelines:
2nd Grade 2nd Grade as of October 1, 2016 and can be no older than 9 on August 31, 2017.
For an athlete that is in the 3rd grade as of October 1, 2016 wanting to play down 2nd grade, they can be no older than 8 on August 31, 2017 (born on or after 9/1/2008).
3rd Grade 3rd Grade as of October 1, 2016 and can be no older than 10 on August 31, 2017.
For an athlete that is in the 4th grade as of October 1, 2016 wanting to play down in 3rd grade, they can be no older than 9 on August 31, 2017 (born on or after 9/1/2007).
4th Grade 4th Grade as of October 1, 2016 and can be no older than 11 on August 31, 2017.
For an athlete that is in the 5th grade as of October 1, 2016 wanting to play down in 4th grade, they can be no older than 10 on August 31, 2017 (born on or after 9/1/2006).
5th Grade 5th Grade as of October 1, 2016 and can be no older than 12 on August 31, 2017.
For an athlete that is in the 6th grade as of October 1, 2016 wanting to play down in 5th grade, they can be no older than 11 on August 31, 2017 (born on or after 9/1/2005).
6th Grade 6th Grade as of October 1, 2016 and can be no older than 13 on August 31, 2017.
For an athlete that is in the 7th grade as of October 1, 2016 wanting to play down in 6th grade, they can be no older than 12 on August 31, 2017 (born on or after 9/1/2004).
7th Grade 7th Grade as of October 1, 2016 and can be no older than 14 on August 31, 2017.
For an athlete that is in the 8th grade as of October 1, 2016 wanting to play down in 7th grade, they can be no older than 13 on August 31, 2017 (born on or after 9/1/2003).
8th Grade 8th Grade as of October 1, 2016 and can be no older than 15 on August 31, 2017.
For an athlete that is in the 9th grade as of October 1, 2016 wanting to play down in 8th grade, they can be no older than 14 on August 31, 2017 (born on or after 9/1/2002).

For an athlete that is in the 10th grade as of October 1, 2016 wanting to play down in 9th grade, they can be no older than 15 on August 31, 2017 (born on or after 9/1/2001).
10th Grade 10th Grade as of October 1, 2016 and can be no older than 17 on August 31, 2017.
For an athlete that is in the 11th grade as of October 1, 2016 wanting to play down in 10th grade, they can be no older than 16 on August 31, 2017 (born on or after 9/1/2000).
11th Grade 11th Grade as of October 1, 2016 and can be no older than 18 on August 31, 2017.
For an athlete that is in the 12th grade as of October 1, 2016 wanting to play down in 11th grade, they can be no older than 17 on August 31, 2017 (born on or after 9/1/1999).
12th Grade 12th Grade as of October 1, 2016 and can be no older than 19 on August 31, 2017.

TEAM ACCEPTANCE NEXT STEPS

If your daughter is going to be offered a roster spot on a Freedom team, you will receive a notification extending the offer. Upon receipt of this offer, your next steps as a parent include:

  • You will receive a link to the Offer Acceptance page. This must be done with 24 hours of receiving the offer
  • Read, understand and agree to the Freedom Commitment Statement
  • Consider accepting a volunteer role with either your daughter's team or at the organizational level
  • Pay an initial installment of the season's fees. This represents a financial indicator of the acceptance
  • You will receive follow-up information detailing other policies, need for certain documentation, and next steps as the team becomes active

TRYOUT FEES AND MEMBERSHIP FEES

(1) Tryout Fee: $25 (Walk-in registration fee is $30. Non-refundable registration fee is due at the tryouts)

(2) Basic Loudoun Freedom Fee Structure:

IMPORTANT: Players should be prepared to make a financial commitment at the time of selection.

Seasonal fees typically cover the following organizational/administrative fees that are paid to the Freedom directly and team-specific fees that are handled by the team treasurer. They include the following items:

  • Gym Space Usage Fees
  • Club Administrative Costs
  • Player Uniforms and practice jerseys (for new players)
  • 7-9 tournament season or league registration - Coaches will develop a full schedule after tryouts.
  • Parks and Recreation Participation Fee
  • AAU Membership Registration - Extended Coverage
  • Team Practice Equipment
  • Player Warm-Ups, Gym Bag, and Spiritwear are optional and extra
  • Fees do not cover membership fees to any organization other than AAU or tournament spectator admissions fees; these will be additional costs.
  • The fees for Showcase and older teams will vary depending on the actual tournaments selected. It is important to note that a number of the tournaments for the upper ages cost several hundred dollars more than regular AAU tournaments for participation.

(3) Payments

  • All fees should be made through online payment or check made out to Loudoun Freedom.
  • An initial downpayment for all teams and players shall be made at time the Freedom extends an offer. This indiciates official acceptance of the offer. It is non-refundable as it represents holding a spot on a team, ordering uniforms and other costs directly incurred when a player is placed on a roster. Full seasons costs are communicated to members are due shortly after.
  • All Loudoun Freedom Membership fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and not PRO-RATED.
  • Any players with a delinquent fee from a previous season will be required to pay all outstanding Loudoun Freedom fees at the time of tryouts. All 2017 Membership fees need to be paid IN FULL on the day of selection in order to further participate. ALL balances for current year memberships must be paid. Players will not be allowed to participate if fees have not been paid. Anyone unsure about previous balances should contact the organization prior to tryout dates.
  • Teams and the organization will have fundraising efforts and seek sponsorships.
  • Families with financial difficulties should contact the Sponsorship Director at freedom.scholarshipdirector@gmail.com to discuss possible options available to the player and the family to obtain information about applying for scholarships. We believe that financial difficulty should not hinder a player from realizing opportunities provided by this organization.

Spring 2017 Tryouts will be held the weekends of Feb. 11-12 and Feb. 18-19. HS tryouts are Feb. 19 and Feb. 26. See the specific schedule for each grade.
